New Age Grocery Shopping with InstaCart

In the past month our lives have completely changed. Our routines have changed into survival mode. The way we shop and live is no longer the same. Since I am an essential worker, I have the privilege of being outside, I was grocery shopping trying to be normal as possible. But, there is nothing normal about being out and about these days.

In the past, I have used grocery delivery but I was not satisfied with the outcome. Especially, since I decided to try it out on Thanksgiving. Imagine getting your groceries the night before Thanksgiving and multiple items being spoiled or moldy. Needless to say I was never going to do it again.

When the Coronavirus took over and it made grocery shopping more difficult. At first, I was frustrated, every time I would ago on to Whole Foods website there were no delivery times. After two days of waiting, I thought to myself where could I order food that wouldn't be busy, I decided on Aldi and then discovered Instacart.

Quick Run Down
I may be really late but I like this service. Having the option to order from more than one store is awesome. It's really easy to navigate the website and you even have time to edit your purchase before it has been delivered. I was scared because living on the southside of Chicago doesn't offer a lot of food choices. It's a food desert but it has been getting better the past few years.

The service was not with a few glitches, but it was way better than other services I have tried and not enough issues to complain about. Remember, during these times personal shoppers are considered essential workers and to be able to purchase affordable groceries and have them delivered is a blessing.

Instacart is a simple website. Signup and enter your zip code to find out what stores are available in your area. From there, once you pick your store, go shopping...Once you find all the things you are looking for, checkout. Here you can chose when you would like your delivery, this is also an opportunity for you to decide if the shopper can replace items not found or chose not to replace those items, this is where things get tricky.  In my opinion, I would put don't replace because you never know what the shopper will replace your item with and you don't want to get stuck with something you don't want.

After your order is complete, you have time before your order is processed to add or edit your order.

Hopefully this will be over soon. But where are you getting your groceries from? Are you having issues finding things?

Treating Myself on Mother's Day

This Mother's Day will be a little different. There will no boozy brunches or relaxing spa days without the kids. This year will be low key and appreciating all the blessings that I have in my life. We have a fun-filled day of breakfast in bed and DIY projects. I can't wait.

I wanted to treat myself because of this pandemic has made me realize that I need to move. Meaning if I want the cake, eat cake. If I want to go shopping, go shopping, but also make sure my business is taken care of. And, by business, I mean my bills are paid and savings are rising. For some weird reason, I often feel like I don't deserve to take care of myself. I know it's weird, but is it something that I have been struggling with for a while. It has gotten better over the years but was really hard when I was staying home with my babies because I wasn't really working. I didn't feel as independent as I do now.

This is the first step in learning to love and treat myself.  With that being said here is my Mother's Day Guide to treating yourself.

PAJAMAS, ROBES, & HOUSE SLIPPERS

Since a lot of us are stuck at home sleepwear has become a huge part of our lives. I'm considered an essential worker so I leave the house everyday but it is the first thing I put on everyday I get home from work. So, why not have something a little nicer than my norm.

BEAUTY

Beauty is something that makes me feel good. I love taking care of my skin and relaxing. I also love QVC so when ever I'm having a hard time swallowing the pricing for something I go to QVC and breakdown the payments. Chris calls me the payment plan queen, which I don't deny. I hate giving all my coins away when I can keep a few.

JEWELRY

Mother's Day is the perfect time to get jewelry. This year was the first year I invested in a nice monogram necklace with my kids initials. I have had necklaces and rings with the kids' names on them but the quality wasn't there and I would have skin irritations so I would have to stop wearing the pieces. I also believe in building a legacy and someday my children will have these items to pass on to their children.

Hopefully this will give you all some ideas on how to treat yourself on Mother's Day! Do you have any plans? How are you celebrating doing quarantine?

Learning Resources for Kids

We are going through the same thing at the moment. How do we keep our kids busy throughout the day and make sure they are learning something. School in Illinois have been cancelled in-person for the rest of the school year. Which means, we will getting used to this new normal. Chris and I have been navigating through all of the worksheets and websites.

Dominic started remote learning late week which was nerve wrecking. He has went from being in school from 8:15-3:15 to two hours of virtual learning with his teacher and classmates. Wow. Suddenly I wonder if he is going to be at a disadvantage. It's already hard enough dealing with working and being restricted by what's going on. Now, I am a teacher. And not a very good one but we have pulled together some online resources to help the kids and it seems to be working.

Online Resources

Free online curriculum from preschool to high school. The boys' teachers are connected so they can see the work they are doing.

Has educational learning games from PreK through 6 grade

Great source to help kids practice their math skills

Additional online resources:
Reading-

Hoping these free resources will help until there is a better solution. We still break it down old school and do flashcards, worksheets, and drawing time to break the day up. How are you making it through? What online resources are you utilizing?

And thank you to the teachers out there, educating our children while still taking care of their own families.

Boys' Bathroom Refresh

Artwork and Soap Dispenser: Marshalls / Shower curtain: Target / Towels: Target

Hello Everyone!
How is everyone holding up? I know this has been a difficult time. For some more than others, especially not knowing what the future holds. I have been trying to stay positive and keep my hands and mind busy. This has been a good thing for me because I have managed to declutter most of my house and now I have started to refresh each room. This week I decided to start with the boys' bathroom. To make things easier for me, I scouted all the accessories on Target's website before we made our weekly pickup trip for essential items. It was easy and affordable.

What are you doing to pass the time? Have you been redecorating or reorganizing your space?

If you are thinking about tackling a small project, try using items that you already have... repurpose them for a different space. I have moved mirrors, side tables, and artwork.

Spring has sprung and there are so many beautiful flowers you can get when you make your grocery delivery to brighten your space. This week I have been eyeing a tulip bouquet for my dining room table.

And, even though home decor are not essential. You can get affordable home decor from Walmart, Target, and Amazon. Check for shipping delays and options for pickup. But, my favorite place to go online or in person is Marshalls and TJ Maxx but unfortunately during this time they are closed.

If you decide to tackle a project, I would love to hear about it.
